Treasure Coast Community Health celebrates newest Vero Beach facility

VERO BEACH — Treasure Coast Community Health hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon to officially show off their newest healthcare facility located in the K-Mart Plaza off U.S. 1 in Vero Beach.

Community and business leaders, local health care providers and Indian River County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors were welcomed by the physicians and staff of this central location, which actually opened its doors on Oct. 24.

The five state-of-the-art TCCH facilities in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere, offer accessible and affordable health care for everyone, with core programs that include primary medical care, women’s health services including obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, routine and preventive dentistry, counseling and behavioral health services, alcohol and chemical detoxification, and pharmaceutical services.

Before the ribbon cutting, visitors were given full access to tour the immaculate site which, like its other facilities, provides care to uninsured and under-insured residents of the community. The uninsured or those with only Medicare may be eligible for a Sliding Fee Scale (SFS) program, determined by Federal Poverty Guidelines.

“I don’t think there are any other agencies in town that have board certified addictionologists,” added Dr. Subhash Tiwari. He and Dr. Edward Katz both trained in the field, which specializes in substance abuse and dependency. “For people who do not have money, this is the only place in town that provides this kind of care.”

Dr. Robert Rappel, chairman of the TCCH governing board spoke briefly to the gathered crowd prior to the ribbon cutting, saying their services are designed to meet the needs of the entire family, from its youngest members to the oldest.

Vicki Soulé, TCCH CEO, introduced County Commission Chairman Gary Wheeler who noted, “This is unique to our community. Many communities do not have facilities like this.”

When asked where she thought the next facility might be built Soulé said, “We will go wherever the need seems appropriate.”

Plans are already underway to expand this location into the storefront next door, turning this central site into a 7,500 square foot facility.

“We fill an important void in the community,” said Steve Dorrance, executive director of the TCCH Foundation. “There’s no question about it.”
