INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – McKee Botanical Garden’s large scale model trains have officially arrived at their stations and are ready to welcome visitors to Holidays at McKee, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday to Sunday, Dec. 15 to 18.
McKee’s G-scale model train display is one of the largest and most impressive in the area. It features three trains and nearly 200 ft. of track that travels along three levels and surrounds a quaint miniature town bustling with activity and filled with detail. The elaborate display is a collaborative effort between McKee and a select group of local model train enthusiasts known simply as “The Train Guys.”
The Train Guys are comprised of Peter Tyson, Jack Nutbrown, Eric Menger and Tom Hadden. Together they contributed over 100 hours to the display’s set up and will oversee its operation during “Holidays at McKee” and “Nights of Lights.”
According to McKee Botanical Garden Executive Director Christine Hobart, “Our model train display has become one of McKee’s most beloved attractions and continues to draw hundreds of local families to the Garden’s holiday events each year.” She adds, “We are so appreciative to The Train Guys for their dedication to maintaining this annual tradition.”
In addition to viewing the massive train display, “Holidays at McKee” visitors will enjoy a number of traditional holiday activities including writing letters to Santa, visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus, Mrs. Claus’ Serendipity candy shop as well as thousands of twinkling lights and festive decorations displayed throughout the Garden. The Garden gift shop and Elizabeth’s at the Garden Café will also be open during the event.
General admission rates apply. General admission fees are $9 adults, $8 seniors and $5 children ages 3 to 12. Admission is free for members and children under 3.
McKee Botanical Garden is located at 350 US Highway 1 in Vero Beach. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
