VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women is sponsoring the showing of “Whale Rider” at the Majestic Theater, 940 14th Lane, Vero Beach, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be used to host a Science Summit for Indian River County middle schools girls at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in February 2012 that is designed to encourage middle school girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The lead actress, Keisha Castle-Hughes, won the Critics Choice Award for Best Young Actress for her role in this contemporary story of love, rejection and triumph. Following the film, Warren Obluck of the Foreign Film Series at The Vero Beach Museum of Art will lead a discussion for those interested.
