Genealogical Society to kick off season Sept. 13

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Genealogical Society is pleased to invite the public to its first general meeting of the season. On Tuesday, Sept. 13, Pamela J. Cooper, Supervisor of the Florida Archive and Genealogy Department of the Indian River County Main Library, will be the featured speaker.

Cooper will update members and guests on new features of Ancestry’s Library Edition.

As most amateur genealogists know, Ancestry.com is one of the best online research tools and regularly updates its material and functions. Those of us lucky enough to attend Pam Cooper’s lectures or classes know that she is an excellent presenter and helps unlock the secrets of successful researching.

In addition, Cooper is a highly regarded national speaker and the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2000 Filby Prize for Genealogical Librarianship and the 2007 Laurel Award for Professional Leadership. She has served on boards of national, state and local genealogical societies. Since 1986, she has grown the genealogy collection at the IRC Main Library from 250 books to more than 40,000 volumes.

The meeting will convene at 9:30 a.m. in the large first floor conference room of the IRC Main Library, 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach. This and all IRGS general meetings are free and open to the public. The society meets each second Tuesday, September through May, and welcomes all those interested in researching their family’s history.
