Weekend Winners: Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Thursday kicks off the weekend with Mulligan’s Dog Days of Summer charity event to benefit the Humane Society while Friday and Saturday pick up on the theme with the In the Ruff Golf Tournament to help out HALO Rescue and Stray No More. The Fellsmere Riding Club plans to hold its monthly rodeo, weather permitting, and the Special Olympics Aquatic Area Games will take over the North County Pool Saturday and Sunday.

  • High Dynamic Range exhibit at the Island Images Gallery of Hope on 14th Avenue in downtown Vero Beach, with images by eight photographic artists including featured juror Kim Seng AKA “Captain Kimo.”
  • The Sebastian River Art Club exhibit of “Fabulous Fakes,” an art show honoring and emulating the “Masters,” at the City of Sebastian’s new Working Waterfront, in the rear section of Crab-E-Bill’s Indian River Seafood Market.

Thursday

 

  • Mulligan’s Dog Days of Summer to benefit the Humane Society. From 5 – 8 p.m. kids eat free and 20% of proceeds are donated to charity.

Friday and Saturday

  • In the Ruff Golf Tournament to benefit H.A.L.O. Rescue and Stray No More, Inc. at the Indian River Club begins with cocktail party Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., followed Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. with continental breakfast, golf tournament and BBQ lunch. Low-cost vaccination clinic &, adoption opportunities and pet photography open to the public 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Saturday

  • Farmer’s Market Oceanside, 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of Ocean Drive and Dahlia Lane, across from Humiston Park in Vero Beach.
  • About Boating Safe class offered by the USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 58 in Fort Pierce; eight-hour class begins at 8 a.m.
  • Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County luncheon, 11:30 a.m. at IRC Main Library with guest speaker Edward White, Chairman of IRC Democratic Party.
  • Free Teen Writer’s Workshop at the Environmental Learning Center from 1 to 4 p.m. The Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation, Inc. and College Application Consultants will present Tapping into the Wild Mind: How to Make Your Writing Come Alive, with poet and Miami-Dade College professor Michael Hettich.
  • Steve Mauldin Memorial Youth Rodeo at the Fellsmere Riding Club beginning at 5 p.m. The event is free to watch and competitions include calf, steer and bull riding, goat tying and untying, mutton bustin’ and barrel racing, to name a few. The club is located at 13101 99th St., Fellsmere.

Saturday and Sunday

  • Special Olympics Aquatic Area Games, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North County Aquatic Center in Sebastian.
