Boys & Girls Clubs receive Dyer Difference Award

VERO BEACH — Dyer Chevrolet and Dyer Mazda Subaru presented the Dyer Difference Award along with a $3,000 check to the 36th recipient, Boys and Girls Club of Indian River County. The award salutes a non-profit organization in Indian River County that is truly making a difference in our community.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County’s Vero Beach branch hosted the State Education Day (SED) on Saturday, July 9. This is a day where children from Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Florida, as well as other Vero Beach non-profit organizations, come together to participate in a day of fun, academic competitions.

The day’s events included math, spelling, art, graphic design, and debate competitions as well as a multitude of fun, strategic games such as chess and Connect Four. Each child competed in a competition of their choice with children from the same age group. Money received through the Dyer Difference Award sponsored the event.

“It means so much as because we are the hosts this year, we really want to put on a great event” Elizabeth Thompson, executive director of the organization said.

“We found this to be a very unique concept and liked the idea of academic competitions.” Tatiana Dyer said.
