Student Health – Swine Flu

Since the H1N1/Swine Flu virus first appeared in Florida, Indian River County Health Department and the Indian River County School District have been working closely together to take proactive steps to minimize the spread of H1N1/Swine Flu in our community.

H1N1/Swine Flu is similar to the influenza that happens every winter, and most people with H1N1/Swine Flu infection have recovered after a brief illness. However, some people have been hospitalized or have died. Most of the people who have had severe H1N1/Swine Flu also have underlying medical conditions.

The symptoms of H1N1/Swine Flu are fever, cough, sore throat, and sometimes headache, muscle aches, runny nose, vomiting, or diarrhea. Influenza spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes near another person.
