VERO BEACH — 2011 marks the twentieth year that the Homeless Family Center has been making a positive impact serving the needs of the homeless in Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties.
To celebrate this milestone, the Center is holding a “Christmas in July” celebration for current residents, former residents, staff and board members, volunteers, officials, old friends and new friends of HFC.
“Christmas in July” celebration will be held at the Homeless Family Center (HFC) on Sunday, July 10 from 11:30 am to 4 pm. The day will feature bounce houses, music, food, drink, games, dancing, and lots of surprises.
The purpose of this exciting event is for the current residents to experience and benefit from the generosity of the community as well as a gathering of alumni and friends celebrating 20 years of serving the homeless.
In December, the Center literally has hundreds of people calling to help make Christmas special for families. Those families have all moved on. New families in resident who will most likely; if we are doing our jobs will not be at HFC in December.
The Fiasco Brother’s Motorcycle Club members are in charge of the food preparation including the coordination of games. The women of Spanish Lakes Fairways are stepping up to add the special touch of Christmas.
The event committee chaired by Roger Sobkowiak includes Robi Robinson, Butch Wheeler, Linda Salkovsky, Penny Thronson, Marge Brennan, Rose Alteria, Mary Guzak, Ashlee Baker, Maria Capobianco, Connie Utter and Jason Kittendorf.
Admission is free but limited to the first two hundred and fifty reservations.
A minimum suggested donation of $20 per family is requested to help pay for the food, “Christmas presents” and the goods that the residents need to move into and out of the center.
