John Edwin Myers, 85, Vero Beach

John Edwin Myers, 85, died June 7, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Omaha, Neb., and lived in Vero Beach since 1988, coming from Jacksonville and Upper Montclair, N.J.

Before retirement, he was a teacher in Duval County until 1988.

He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and Air Force veteran of the Korean War, where he became a lieutenant colonel.

He attended Duke University and earned degrees from the University of Florida and Florida State University.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Emily Helseth Myers; daughter, Mary Myers-Burgess; son, Eric Myers; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. June 11 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
