Elizabeth “Liz” Bowler introduces “Barter is Smarter”

VERO BEACH — Elizabeth “Liz” Bowler wants to help your business get new customers, expand market share and conserve cash.  Bowler is the owner of the local ITEX franchise with over 100 members; her company is one of ninety-five brokerages in the country.

Read MoreITEX members can trade locally or with any of the 25,000 ITEX members in the United States and Canada, with businesses and individuals trading goods and services at fair market value.  Founded in 1982, ITEX processes over $270 million a year in transactions; its corporate offices are in Bellevue, Washington.

As an example of how the process works, an attorney may purchase cleaning services on trade, the cleaning service may need advertising or flowers, while the florist may need web design or wood floors.  Individuals who have vacation homes to rent or china and furniture to sell join ITEX to earn trade dollars they can spend on dental, chiropractic and spa services, restaurant gift certificates and printing.

Bowler recruits new members and manages trade for businesses who prefer their accounts to be managed by the brokerage.  Helen Tracey is Trade Director and markets member businesses to other members, assists with transactions, as well as searches for goods and services at the request of the ITEX members.  ITEX members can also participate in a co-op advertising program when they use the ITEX logo in their print or electronic advertising.

Bowler is now hosting a weekly radio show called “Barter is Smarter” featuring her members as guests.  The guests have a chance to promote their own business as well as discuss their trading experiences.  Listen on Thursdays from 6:30 pm to7 pm on WAXE 1370 AM and 107.9 FM.   Additionally, quarterly events hosted by the exchange for members allow them to meet in person to promote their businesses.  The next member event will be at Felix’s Place on Friday, June 24.
