Peter Joseph White, 100, Vero Beach

Peter Joseph White, 100, died May 20, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Newfoundland, Canada, and lived in Vero Beach for 11 years, coming from South Weymouth, Mass.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston University.

He worked for the Department of the Navy for 30 years, retiring in 1968 as a contract administrator.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Rita M. White, of Vero Beach; daughter, Ellie Turner, of Vero Beach; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings.
