VERO BEACH — The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB&IRC) will be offering June dog training classes. The six-week classes are available to the general public for $35.
Attendees have their choice of registering for Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday classes. Dog owners attending with canines adopted from the Humane Society will receive refunds if training is completed.
Morning classes from 11 a.m. to 12 noon begin Wednesday, June 22; evening classes from 7 to 8 p.m. begin Thursday, June 23; and afternoon classes from 1 to 2 p.m. begin Saturday, June 25.
Skills taught include “sit,” “stay,” “down,” walking on leash without pulling and walking on leash at the heel position. Other topics addressed include meeting new dogs and people, coming when called, door-bolting, jumping and establishing the proper social structure in the home. Introduction to agility will also be covered.
Dog training programs are taught by HSVB & IRC Pet Behavior Coordinator Connie Ellis, a National Association of Dog Obedience Trainers-endorsed instructor since 1975.
Puppy and dog training classes are held at The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County’s Adoption and Education Building, located at 6230 77th Street, Vero Beach, Florida. Registration will continue until classes are filled.
