Charles Dugan Hess, 90, Vero Beach

Charles Dugan Hess, 90, died April 15, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Coldwater, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for more than 30 years, coming from Columbus, Ohio.

He was owner of Hess Gardner Lumber Co. in Columbus.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy.

He was past president of the Walloon Lake Country Club, Walloon Lake, Mich., a member of the Scioto Country Club, Columbus, and the Vero Beach Yacht Club, Riomar Country Club and Holy Cross Catholic Church, all in Vero Beach.

He earned his bachelor of science degree from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa and Delta Sigma Pi.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Louann Winters Hess, of Vero Beach; daughter, Catherine Hess Williams. of Pembroke Pines; sons, Charles D. Hess Jr., of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Robert A. Hess, of Dublin, Ohio, and Andrew J. Hess, of Ringoes, N.J.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Gulfstream Council, 3775 20th Place, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. May 14 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with military honors immediately following.

Interment will be at a later date.
