Canine massage talk set for April 13

VERO BEACH – The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County will be hosting a talk on canine massage Wednesday, April 13 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. The presenter is certified canine massage therapist Marie Lumenti.

Lumenti will be discussing how massage has the ability to help dogs overcome joint stiffness and pain, improves circulation and reduces stress. She will also be demonstrating basic massage techniques on one lucky canine.

The presentation on canine massage is free however attendees are asked to RSVP by calling (772) 388-3331 ext. 18.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
