Sonja A. Kennedy, 70, died March 23, 2011, at Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne.

She was born in Tallahassee and lived in Sebastian for 10 years, coming from Columbus, Ohio.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Donald Kennedy, of Sebastian; daughters, Shelley Hawks, of Vero Beach, Lisa Roberts, of Moraga, Calif., and Kerry Blaker, of Columbus; sons, Mark Blaker, of Vero Beach and Frank Blaker, of Farmington, Mich.; sister, Marva Joiner, of Warren, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Skinner.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5:30 p.m. March 26 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach, with a wake service at 5:30 p.m.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
