Fighting Indians Band Boosters to hold Golf Tournament

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach High School Fighting Indians Band Boosters will hold their Fifth Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 14, at The Club at Pointe West.  The proceeds from this fundraiser will directly benefit the Vero Beach High School Band, “The Pride of the Treasure Coast.”

The Vero Beach High School Band includes the Vero Beach High School Fighting Indians March Band, two Symphonic Bands, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Flag Corps.

The band has again received all “Superior” awards at all festival and competitive events, just recently performing at the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York.

Sponsors are currently being sought for thes event.  Please join us in supporting “The Pride of the Treasure Coast” by becoming a sponsor of this important and fun event or by participating in this year’s golf tournament.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. Indian River County plans walking trail for former Dodgertown golf course

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The county is planning a major upgrade to the recently acquired defunct Dodgertown golf course. A roughly mile-long walking trail is slated to be carved out on the long-shuttered course, providing the public improved accessibility to the adjacent historic Jackie Robinson Training Complex with a pedestrian connection to 43rd Avenue and Aviation Boulevard. The proposed walking trail, which has yet to be designed and could be longer than a mile upon completion, will likely include a pedestrian bridge connection to the cloverleaf fields and a new tree line buffer along 43rd Avenue, according to county documents.
