VERO BEACH — The GFWC Treasure Coast Women are teeing up for their 13th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser for Scholarships, 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9 at the Vista Plantation Golf Club.  Registration is $35 and tee sponsorships are $25. The team entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, orange juice, pastries, coffee, and door prizes.

Dawn Rowe is chairing the event, which includes cash prizes in women’s, men’s, and couples divisions.  Ft Pierce Nissan is donating a car for a hole-in-one prize.

Players will be notified of tee times. Deadline for participants is March 30th.

PSL man dead after car crashes in ditch in west county

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An unidentified Port St. Lucie man died after his car crashed in a canal in west county, fire rescue crews said. The name of the 60-year-old man will be released pending notification of family members, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said. FHP is investigating what caused the single-car wreck. Troopers said the man was traveling in a 2002 Ford mustang about 4 a.m. Wednesday on southbound 122nd Avenue Southwest, just south of 9th Street Southwest. Indian River County plans walking trail for former Dodgertown golf course

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The county is planning a major upgrade to the recently acquired defunct Dodgertown golf course. A roughly mile-long walking trail is slated to be carved out on the long-shuttered course, providing the public improved accessibility to the adjacent historic Jackie Robinson Training Complex with a pedestrian connection to 43rd Avenue and Aviation Boulevard. The proposed walking trail, which has yet to be designed and could be longer than a mile upon completion, will likely include a pedestrian bridge connection to the cloverleaf fields and a new tree line buffer along 43rd Avenue, according to county documents.
