INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Kidz Closet Charities, in partnership with The Treasure Coast Food Bank, is pleased to announce the establishment of The Community Diaper Bank. By raising funds from private donors, Kidz Closet Charities has been able to purchase diapers through The Food Bank at a lower cost and in bulk for distribution to partner agencies that serve women and their infants. For more than two years, Kidz Closet Charities has provided gently-used clothing items, books and toys, schools uniforms, bedding, warm clothing, socks and shoes to Indian River County agencies that serve children, to after-school programs and to all Head Start locations and all Title l schools.
Over time it became obvious to Kidz Closet Charities that the agencies and programs serving women and infants in Indian River County were in need of an ongoing resource for diapers. The purchase of diapers is a hardship for many local agencies due to budget cuts and restrictions. Judy Cruz, Executive Director of The Treasure Coast Food Bank, was willing and able to collaborate with Kidz Closet Charities who will serve as the distributor of the diapers to their existing partner agencies.
“It seemed like the natural next step for Kidz Closet Charities to step up to plate and find a solution to this problem. We are thankful that The Treasure Coast Food Bank under the direction of Judy Cruz is on board with the project” stated Diane Mahan, Director of Kidz Closet Charities.
Recently, more than 10,000 diapers were distributed to SafeSpace, CareNet, Healthy Start Coalition and The Source to kick off the arrival of The Community Diaper Bank in Indian River County.
