Tree worker seriously hurt after falling from bucket truck
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A tree company worker has broken bones after falling at least 10 feet from a bucket truck Thursday, fire rescue crews said. Indian River County Fire Rescue crews responded to the incident at 10:17 a.m. in the 1100 block of 20th Street, Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said. The man fell 10 to 15 feet at a worksite. Kofke said the man, in his 30's, suffered a possible broken leg and other broken bones. The man was conscious when he was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce with serious injuries, Kofke said. It was unclear what town the man lives in. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th.
