John Ralph Schiavone Jr., 65, Vero Beach

John Ralph Schiavone Jr., 65, died Jan. 23, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Washington, D.C., and lived in Vero Beach for 55 years, coming from Oxen Hill, Md.

He had worked for Piper Aircraft, Grumann and Gulfstream.

He was a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club.

He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors include his daughter, Christina Moore, of Appleton, Wis.; brother, Michael Gregory, of Savannah, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L St., Washington, DC 20037.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 5 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach followed by a prayer service at 3 p.m.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings.
