Boating with the ELC

WABASSO ISLAND – Individuals, families, groups of friends, and visiting guests have found that exploring our Indian River Lagoon and its tributaries is memorable and fun. The best way to enjoy and learn about this unique natural resource is by watercraft. The Environmental Learning Center offers guided trips throughout this fascinating and diverse terrain by kayak, canoe, and pontoon boat. The kayaks and canoes are quiet, maneuverable watercraft with shallow draft that provides unique opportunities to observe nature, close-up, and undisturbed.

Each trip is led by an experienced guide who gives canoe and kayak instruction, as needed. The pontoon boat excursions offer a relaxed way to observe a wide range of natural sights. Appropriate background, factoids, and historical perspective for the sights seen are included with each trip.

Three hour kayak trips to explore the St. Sebastian River are scheduled each month and cost $30 per adult and $25 per child, 8 years or older. Casual kayaking in the lagoon is also available in February at the same cost.

Numerous morning and afternoon canoeing trips lasting two and one-half hours are offered each month at a cost of $15 per adult and $7 per child 10 years or older. Kayaks, canoes and any needed instruction are included.

Numerous two-hour pontoon boat trips both in the morning from 9 am to 11 am and afternoon from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm are offered each month to Pelican Island and the St. Sebastian River. The cost of the trip to Pelican Island is $22 per adult and $10 per child, and the cost of the trip to the St. Sebastian River is $26 per adult and $14 per child.
