Calvin “Cal” Shank, 85, Vero Beach

Calvin “Cal” Shank, 85, died Jan. 17, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He was born in Homerville, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for four years and Stuart for more than 25 years, coming from Akron, Ohio.

Before retirement, he was executive vice president of Ross Oil in Miami.

He was an Army veteran. He was an A&FM 32nd degree Mason and a member of Mariner Sands Chapel in Stuart, The Executives Club in Miami, Mariner Sands Golf and Country Club in Stuart and the Martin Memorial Foundation, where he served as chairman emeritus.

He also was a fundraiser for Martin County charities, including Molly’s House, Martin Memorial Foundation and Mariner Sands Charity Classic.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Donna; daughters, Dianne S. Brode, of Austin, Texas, and Sheila S. Burton, of Jacksonville; son, Donald C. Shank, of Atlanta; brother, Marion Shank, of Medina, Ohio; sister, Phyllis Burdick, of Escondido, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at Mariner Sands Gardens in Stuart.

A memorial celebration will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at Lakes at Point West Clubhouse in Vero Beach with Dr. Robert Bedingfield officiating.

Arrangements are by Martin Funeral Home and Crematory in Stuart.
