Mary Catharyne “Kitty” Waddell, 83, died Jan. 16, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
She was born in Beckley, W.Va., and lived in Vero Beach for 64 years, coming from Belle Glade.
She owned and operated the Poinsettia Gift Shop and Kitiwa Ceramics in Vero Beach.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Vero Beach, where she was also a member of the Pairs and Spares and Centennial Circle.
She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, a Rainbow Girls mother adviser, docent at the Vero Beach Museum of Art and a master gardener and National Flower Show judge.
Survivors include her sons, Gene Waddell, of Vero Beach, and Brent Waddell, of Jensen Beach; daughters, Sandra McKnight, of Aiken, S.C., Phyllis Horner, of Vero Beach and April Stewart, of Franklin, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Beckett Quay “B.Q.” Waddell Jr.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
Services will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star at 6:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at the First United Methodist Church, Vero Beach with Dr. Charles C. Lever officiating.
Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.
