Alice Cecelia Taylor, 87, of Vero Beach, died at her residence on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011.
She was born in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 18, 1923.
Alice attended St. Catherine’s Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Massachusetts until she married Claude E. Taylor, in 1947.
Taylor was a homemaker and mother to six children.
She resided in East Haddam, Connecticut until she moved to Vero Beach in 1970.
While living in Florida, Taylor worked at Indian River Memorial Hospital as an aide, a home health care nurse and then completed her career working for the office of Doctors Punches, Molina, Jaffe and Rossway of Vero Beach.
Alice and her husband Gene owned and operated Vero Beach Tackle Shop for several years.
She also volunteered with Indian River Memorial Hospital’s Pink Ladies’ auxiliary and the American Red Cross.
She was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church.
Survivors include Claudia Epright (Edwin, Catherine and Charlotte), of Connecticut, Alice T. Cordova (Lou, Jason and Susan), of Vero Beach, Cheryl Taylor, of Arizona, Timothy J. Taylor, of Vero Beach, Susan T. Hall (Bruce, Kelly and Leland), of West Palm Beach, and LCDR C.E. Taylor (Lori, Kristen, Michael, and Stephanie), of Orange Park.
She has nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Claude E. Taylor, in May of 2004.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida, 32960.
There will be no repose or visitation.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 2085 Tallahassee Avenue, Vero Beach, Fl.
