Golden Sands Park to close for few weeks starting Dec. 6

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — This will be the last weekend that beachgoers can head out to Golden Sands Beach.

Starting Dec. 6, the county will close the park so that contractors can replenish the sand on the beach. The closure is expected to last through Dec. 24.

Golden Sands Park is located at 10240 N. A1A.

The next closes beaches are Treasure Shores to the north, which is unguarded, and Wabasso Beach to the south.

Wabasso Beach was closed for a period of time earlier this year to accommodate the beach renourishment project.

Man critical after self-inflicted gunshot wound near Wabasso Beach Park

WABASSO BEACH — A man was in critical condition Thursday after deputies said he shot himself while on a surfboard in the water not far from Wabasso Beach County Park. The incident led law enforcement to close the beach for several hours. The shooting was an isolated incident. There was no known danger to the public, Indian River County sheriff's spokesperson Lt.
