Leroy Dobson, II, 83, Vero Beach

Leroy Dobson, II, 83, of Vero Beach, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Carnegie, Ga., and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 49 years, coming from Ft. Pierce. Dobson was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Mission Baptist Church, Vero Beach.

Dobson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Geraldine; sons, Bobby Dobson, of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Darrell E. Dobson, of Orlando; daughter, Barbara Richardson, of Alma, Ga.; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Leroy “Junior” Dobson, III; daughters, Lenora Williams and Angela Salem.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.

Donations may be made to Mt. Zion Mission Baptist Church, 4405 43rd Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32967.

11-year-old breaks into church, steals laptop on Christmas Day

GIFFORD — An 11-year-old who deputies said broke into a church and stole a laptop on Christmas Day, was detained. Deputies also arrested the boy's mother after saying she failed to report the boy as missing. The Gifford youth told deputies he stole the $700 laptop because "he wanted something to play with," reports show. Deputies said the juvenile was a runaway. An arrest report noted the incident took place at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, located just south of St. Peter's Academy. Both facilities have the same address at 4250 38th Avenue, Gifford.
