VERO BEACH – The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is trying to find a “quick fix” for the community’s pet overpopulation problem. That’s why it’s hosting “Boys for a Buck,” a campaign offering vouchers to sterilize male cats for only one dollar.
The one dollar sterilization vouchers for male cats will be issued on Wednesday, November 10 at the Humane Society’s clinic between 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Humane Society is located at 6230 77th St., Vero Beach. Cats need not be present when vouchers are issued since surgeries will be performed on Wednesday, December 1.
The voucher program is for male cats only. Voucher recipients must bring proof of county residency as well as proof of rabies vaccination. Unvaccinated cats will receive a rabies vaccine on the day of surgery for an additional $5.
Two donors wishing to remain anonymous have pledged funds for up to one hundred surgeries in order to make the “Boys for a Buck” promotion possible. Their generous pledge was made out of a concern for the number of unwanted cats throughout Indian River County. The focus of male cat neuters was selected since the greatest number of surgeries can be accomplished and therefore the greatest number of animals can be helped.
