TRAFFIC: Portions of south county roads to close Oct. 26 near 20th Ave. for widening

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Portions of 23rd Street SW, 23rd Place SW, and 24th Street SW just east of 20th Avenue will be closed starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, through 5 p.m. Dec. 3 for 20th Avenue to be expanded.

The work was originally slated to begin today, Oct. 20, but was postponed to next week.

A detour route will be posted. Access for home owners will be maintained. For additional information, please contact Geoffrey Bass at (772) 226-1527.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Indian River Charter High School has postponed its graduation date for the 2020 senior class. The graduation date for the charter high school was pushed back to 10 a.m. June 27. The school made the announcement Thursday in a Facebook post. Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings.
