Karen Baker Squires, 67, Vero Beach

Karen Baker Squires, 67, died Oct. 5, 2010, at the VNA Hospice House.

She was born in Dallas and lived in Vero Beach and Jacksonville. She had a graduate degree in special education from the University of North Florida.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas E. Squires; sons, Randall E. Squires, Rob D. Squires and Peter Levin; and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at Church of Our Savior, Jacksonville, with a reception to follow at the church.

Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.

2 wounded in late Monday shooting; deputies investigating

GIFFORD — Two people suffered non-life threatening injuries following a double shooting late Monday, Indian River County sheriff's deputies reported. It was the second reported shooting to take place in Indian River County over the Labor Day weekend. Both incidents are not connected, sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Jaworski said. Details on the motive in Monday's shooting were not immediately available. Man killed in overnight shooting in Gifford

GIFFORD — A man in his early 20s was killed after being struck by gunfire overnight, authorities said. Indian River County sheriff's officials said there was no known danger to the public but are investigating the case as a homicide. "Currently, detectives are working all leads," sheriff's officials said in a statement. "There is no suspect information that can be presently shared."
