Philip M. Eckert, 98, died Sept. 5, 2010.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Indian River Estates in Vero Beach since 1987, coming from Hobe Sound. Before retirement, he was employed with Consolidated Edison (formerly N.Y. Edison Co.). He worked in public utilities as a supervisor from 1928 to 1968.
He served in World War II as a Navy Seabee in the Pacific from July 1943 until November 1945.
He was an active member of the Community Church in Vero Beach until his 90th birthday. He served as a deacon, usher and secretary in Vero Beach and West Palm Beach.
He was a 77-year member and life member of the Masonic Lodge, receiving a 75-year pin in August 2008.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Dorothy Schroeder, of Long Island, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Harriet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Children’s Home or to the Indian River Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
A private service and interment will be in Tequesta, Fla., with the Rev. Paul Arnold officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
