John Hall McDowell, 68, Vero Beach

John Hall McDowell, 68, died Sept. 2, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Milwaukee and lived in Vero Beach for nine years, coming from the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. He was semiretired, working as a consultant for the World Bank. He served in the Coast Guard during the Vietnam era. He graduated from the University of Florida and Harvard University, earning his MBA.

Survivors include his sons, Brett McDowell, of Melbourne, Fla., and Jon Michael McDowell, of Crownsville, Md.; mother, Virginia E. McDowell, of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; brothers, Todd McDowell, of Rockledge, Fla., and Brooks McDowell, of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., 4360 N. Lake Blvd., Suite 109, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel in Sebastian, with the Rev. Dr. Murray Hicks officiating.
