VERO BEACH — The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is hosting a series of events in September, for children, adults, shoppers and anyone interested in the welfare of animals.
The Humane Society will host Story Time at the Brackett Library at Indian River State College, 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, September 13, and at the Indian River County Main Library, 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14.
The Humane Society will be on hand to read a story with an animal or environmentally themed message. Afterwards, children are invited to participate in a craft or activity corresponding to the story. For more information call Janet Winikoff, HSVB & IRC (772) 388-3331 ext. 18
The shelter will also host a Pet Trust seminar on Tuesday, September 14 from 10 to 11 a.m. Learn how to make plans for your pets if you are unable to care for them. The event will be held at the shelter’s Adoption and Education Center, located at 6230 77th St., Vero Beach. The presentation’s featured speakers are Vero Beach attorney Jennifer Peshke of the law firm Stewart, Evans, Stewart & Emmons, P.A. and HSVB & IRC Director of Development Keith Hinton.
Peshke will present the legal aspects of pet trusts to assure that companion animals receive proper care after the disability or death of their owner.
Hinton will discuss the Humane Society’s Pet Guardian Program, a plan that allows families to provide the shelter with animal care directives in the event of a pet owner’s death. “Companion animals are like family members. Clarifying your wishes in writing is the best way to explain to others how your animals should be cared for if you can no longer care for them,” explains Hinton.
The seminar is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served. For more information or to reserve seating at the event, please call Connie Cotherman at (772) 388-3331 ext. 26.
On Wednesday, September 15, from 4 to 11 p.m., Chili’s Fun Night will benefit the Humane Society. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society if diners bring in a Humane Society flyer OR say the code word “ADOPT” to their food server.
Chili’s is located at 940 US 1, Vero Beach. For more information, call Connie Cotherman at (772) 388-3331 ext. 26
And finally, the Humane Society will host their always popular No Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 18 at the shelter’s Adoption and Education Center.
