WABASSO ISLAND – Middle school students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades interested in learning more about Florida’s ecology may consider joining the Junior Interpreter program at the Environmental Learning Center.
Junior Interpreters learn how to teach educational programs, help with ELC events, and volunteer as a group to help with conservation projects in the community. They lead monthly seine netting and dip netting educational programs for families and become knowledgeable about eco-facts to share with others.
The Interpreters are selected based on their willingness to learn and teach others about the environment, their experience with public speaking, and their prior volunteer experience. They commit to volunteering a minimum of three hours a month while they are at the ELC, one Saturday a month from October through May. A maximum of 15 students will be selected.
The application deadline is Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Applications and details on becoming a Junior Interpreter are available at www.DiscoverELC.org
