Rev. Alexander begins series: Ten Commandments for the 21st Century

VERO BEACH — Approaching the pulpit for the first time as settled minister of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, the Reverend Scott Alexander will begin a yearlong series of monthly sermons entitled “Ten Commandments for the 21st Century.” The first of the series – “Thou Shalt Do Unto Others As You Would Have them Do Unto You” – will be given at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 12.

Rev. Alexander writes, “The Golden Rule plays a central ethical role in all of the world´s great religions, and surely should serve us as a cornerstone for our relationships and activities.”

The series will be designed to help people explore the fundamentals of how humanity might achieve a habitable and humane future together in this increasingly complex and endangered world. Rev. Alexander noted that “the original Ten commandments – found in ancient Jewish scriptures and written for the people of another time – have served humanity for centuries with

many fundamental truths about human behavior. But I wanted to supplement this old list,” he continued, “with additional `do´s and don´ts´ which address our modern – and increasingly complex – human condition.”

Both audio and printed versions of each sermon will be posted on the congregation´s website: uufvb.org.
