INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Thousands of children are waking up extra early today as they load up their backpacks and step out to their bus stop for the first day of the new school year.
Students will be traveling throughout the county, getting to one of the district’s 24 schools – including charters and magnets. Drivers are encouraged to take special care when commuting to and from work as school buses will be taking to the streets, along with parents operating carpool.
School officials hope bus transportation runs smoothly but ask parents wait at least 10 minutes after their child’s scheduled pick-up time before calling the school district’s transportation line.
Students won’t have long to wait for a three-day weekend. There will be no school on Monday, Sept. 6 due to the Labor Day holiday.
