VERO BEACH — For one day each year, McKee Botanical Garden opens its gates free of charge to thank the community for their support. “Community Appreciation Day” will take place this year on Saturday, October 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All visitors will be admitted free and will receive $10 off the price of any membership.
“Community Appreciation Day is a wonderful opportunity to discover McKee for the first time or to introduce friends and family to its history and horticulture,” explained Executive Director Christine Hobart. “We are extremely grateful for the support the Garden receives, and this is our way of giving back.”
Community Appreciation Day also marks the annual reunion of the original “Saturday Morning Gang” who cleaned up and raised funds for McKee before it reopened.
Memberships to McKee Botanical Garden are available at several levels. Members are admitted free for one year, receive a 10 percent discount in the Garden Gift Shop and Garden Café and enjoy free or discounted admission to more than 200 arboreta, gardens and museums across North America through the American Horticulture Society’s Reciprocal Admission Program.
The mission of McKee Botanical Garden is to nurture and enhance a historic garden in a unique tropical setting for the education, enjoyment and enrichment of all.
General admission fees are $9 adults, $8 seniors and $5 children ages 3 to 12. Admission is free for members and children under 3.
Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.; closed Mondays.
