Congressman Kendrick Meek to speak at Democratic Luncheon

VERO BEACH — U. S. Congressman Kendrick Meek (D) Florida, Candidate for the U.S. Senate will be the Special Guest at the Indian River County Democratic Party’s First Annual Fundraising Luncheon on Saturday, August 14.  The luncheon will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Vero Beach Yacht Club.

Meek who currently serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means, the Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, and the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures will address the topic, “A Celebration of the 1935 Social Security Act.”  Kendrick served in the Florida State House of Representatives from 1995 -1999 and in the Florida Senate from 1999 – 2002.  He was elected to the U.S. Congress in 2002 representing Florida’s 17th Congressional District.

This is the Democratic Executive Committee’s main fund raising event for the year and funds raised will be allocated toward keeping the Indian River County Democratic headquarters open year round and providing marketing material to publicize Democratic policies and issues and specific assistance to candidates.

The IRC Democratic Party supports candidates by providing forums, phone banking, canvassing, having booths at local events, and educating the general public.  Residents may drop in to the new Democratic Headquarters to obtain information, volunteer or discuss issues and concerns.

Luncheon tickets are $75 per person.  Advanced registration is necessary as seating is limited.
