Toss a pie at Mayor Sawnick Sunday to support no-kill pet rescue

VERO BEACH — For anyone who has ever wanted to throw something at Vero Beach Mayor Kevin Sawnick while watching a City Council meeting, your chance has come today.

Sawnick has volunteered to be the receiver of cream pies in the face as part of a fund-raising event for All Pet Rescue, a local no-kill shelter and animal rescue program. The fundraiser is being sponsored by the Florida Veterinary League and will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the league’s headquarters at 1360 U.S. Hwy 1, Vero Beach.

“They asked me if I would do something to help out the event for the no-kill shelter and I suggested a dunk tank or pie throwing or something like that, for people to take shots at me to raise a few bucks,” Sawnick said.

Sawnick said he did not know how much it would cost to throw a pie at him, but that the money would all go to a good cause, the sheltering, fostering and rehabilitation of pets in need of help.

Those with a rescue dog in the family are invited to bring their companion animal — leashed, of course — to the event. For the dogs, there will be a dog wash, nail clipping and micro-chilpping. A bounce house and face painting, as well as food and drink vendors will be on hand for the whole family.
