Gwendolyn Jones, 56, Vero Beach

Gwendolyn Jones, 56, died June 1, 2010, at VNA Hospice House.

She was born in Quincy and lived in Vero Beach and St. Lucie County for six years, coming from Quincy.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, Vero Beach.

Survivors include her mother, Ruth Quarterman of Vero Beach; brother, Alpheus Jones of Quincy; and sisters, Dorothy McPhee of Vero Beach; and Shirley Quarterman of Fort Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her father, Freddie Jones.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. June 4 and a funeral service at 11 a.m. June 5 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Pierce.

Entombment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Fort Pierce. Arrangements are by Stone Brothers Funeral Home.

Family, friends, marines honor ‘protector, hometown hero’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Frank Strahorn was already considered a hero by his family, friends and marine brothers and sisters because of his military service around the world. Then, on June 19, the 34-year-old became a "hometown hero" after he was fatally shot while helping others escape a gunman carrying an AK-47 assault rifle at a Sebastian pizzeria.
