Driver critical after early morning crash in Gifford

GIFFORD – A driver is in critical condition following an early morning single-vehicle crash in the area of 43rd Avenue and 45th Street, authorities said Saturday.

Gilles Eminus, 34, of Vero Beach, was driving west on 45th Street approaching 43rd Avenue around 2:20 a.m. when for an as of yet undetermined reason he lost control of his 1996 Buick sedan, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Eminus’s vehicle went into the grass and dirt shoulder on the northside of 45th Street and Eminus overcorrected, losing control of the vehicle.

The Buick traveled across the eastbound lane of 45th Street and onto the south shoulder before going airborne across a small canal and crashing into a tree, FHP said.

Eminus was transported to Indian River Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries sustained in the crash.
