Another charge added to Hatch case, could delay start of trial

VERO BEACH — The defense lawyer for Ira Hatch will be in court Friday asking for a delay to the March 24 money laundering and racketeering trial against the former attorney after prosecutors filed another grand theft charge.Assistant State Attorney Lev Evans contends the grand theft charge does not materially change the $4.5 million case against Hatch. However, his attorney, Gregory Eisenmenger told Circuit Judge Robert Hawley Tuesday he would need more time to go over the changes.

Hawley gave Eisenmenger until Friday to review the additional charge and return to court to make a case for delaying the start of the trial against the 62-year-old Hatch.Hatch is now charged with 58 felonies connected with losing millions of dollars of clients’ money from the former Coastal Escrow Services and the law firm of Hatch & Doty.
