VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach High School Band has once again been awarded the “Otto Kraushar Memorial Award” by the Florida Bandmasters Association for having one or more bands receive “Straight Superior” ratings in all aspects of the Music Performance Assessment.
To achieve this honor a school must receive a “Straight Superior” Rating at the FBA District Marching Band, District Concert Band, and the State Concert Band Music Performance Assessment.
Both bands from Vero Beach High School performed at the State MPA on Tuesday, April 27th with the Symphonic Band I receiving a rating of “Straight Superior” and the Symphonic Band II receiving a rating of “Excellent,” which qualified the Vero Beach High School Band program for the prestigious “Kraushar – Twenty Point Award”.
One or more bands from Vero Beach High School have qualified for and appeared at the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment for the past 29 consecutive years.
The Vero Beach High School Band, under the direction of Band Director James Sammons, holds the Florida record for the most consecutive “Superior” Ratings at the State Music Performance Assessment for any school under the direction of the same band director currently teaching in Florida.
