Frederick Henry Zacharek, 80, Vero Beach

Frederick Henry Zacharek, 80, died April 8, 2010, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 18 years, coming from Boca Raton. Before retirement, he had worked for Siemens Corp. for 15 years as a telephone support engineer.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in the First Cavalry Division. He was a member of the Community Church in Vero Beach, the Elks Lodge No. 1774 of Vero Beach, the Korean War Veterans, and Regional Member of the Deborah Hospital Foundation in Browns Mills, N.J.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Zacharek of Vero Beach; sons, Timothy Zacharek of Bear, Del., and Michael Zacharek of Boynton Beach; stepdaughters, Kathleen Simpkins of Westmont, N.J., Melanie Buckholz of Sicklerville, N.J., and Justine Stevens of Haddon Township, N.J.; stepsons, Kenneth Burke of Collingswood, N.J., and Brendan Burke of Coconut Creek; brother, George Zacharek of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Zacharek; son, Patrick Zacharek; daughter Catherine Davison; and brothers, Walter and Ed Zacharek.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Church Building Fund, 1901 23rd St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. April 13 at the Grace Chapel Community Church in Vero Beach, with the Rev. Carol Trax officiating.
