Arthur Clayton Kirby Jr., 94, Vero Beach

Arthur Clayton Kirby Jr., 94, died March 21, 2010, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Hamilton, Mass., and moved to Vero Beach in 1987 from his place of birth.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the Pacific Theater in the 135th Seabees. He worked as a supervisor for the Gear System Division of United Shoe Machines Corp. in Wakefield, Mass. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the John T. Heard Masonic Lodge A. F. & A. M. in Ipswich, Mass., and the Aleppo Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Kirby of Vero Beach; son, Arthur C. Kirby of Leominster, Mass.; daughter, Karen Kirby of Newberg, Ore.; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Greaves Kirby, brother, Robert Kirby and sisters, Shirley Frost and Dorothy McCown.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. March 25 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home with a life celebration service at 11 a.m.
