INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Planning has begun for the 2010-2011 Dollars for Scholars Football Classic, an exciting gridiron match-up between the Sebastian River High School and Vero Beach High School Varsity Football teams.
A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales goes to Dollars for Scholars of Indian River County, an organization that has been providing need-based college scholarships to Indian River County students since 1965.
For the past four years, this game has been played during the preseason, each school alternating as hosts for the event. However, next year and every year thereafter, the game will be on the regular season schedule.
For Vero Beach High School, which will host the event in 2010, it will be their first game of the regular season, which happens to be Sept. 3.
Sebastian River High School will host the game during the 2011 season. It will be their ninth game of the regular season, which will fall on Oct. 28.
Last year’s event, hosted by Sebastian River High School, raised more than $15,000 for Dollars for Scholars.
Dollars for Scholars of Indian River County is supported solely by residents and businesses of Indian River County. Through their generosity, this organization has been able to donate $6.7 million worth of scholarships to college bound students in Indian River County.
The Dollars for Scholars Football Classic is always very well attended, and as a result, generates much needed funds for students who need financial assistance to attend college. Two dollars from each game ticket sold will be designated for Dollars for Scholars of Indian River County.
