INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Cheryl Conley, a fourth-grade teacher at Osceola Magnet, Wednesday night was selected as Teacher of the Year for the Indian River County School District. With the selection, Conley will compete for state-wide teacher of the year honors.Conley has been a teacher for three years at Osceola after spending seven years in the classroom in Texas. She is also the school’s science coordinator and fourth- and fifth-grade science adviser.Noted by colleagues for her energy and upbeat outlook, her school Web site shows a picture of Conley teaching science to her class on Halloween dressed as Albert Einstein.Other finalists in the competition included: Marcela Blelloch, fourth grade, Fellsmere Elementary; Cynthia Emerson, social studies, Storm Grove Middle; Michael Hall, social studies, Sebastian River Middle; and Karen Whalen, first grade, Vero Beach Elementary.
