Russell Leroy Johnson, 82, Vero Beach

Russell Leroy Johnson, 82, died Feb. 24, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for 23 years, coming from Wilmington, N.C. He worked in maintenance at Gardenia Gardens and Orange Blossom Village, both of Vero Beach.

He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Mary Johnson; son, Russell Johnson of New Jersey; daughters, Carolyn Schenkenberger of Stockport, Ohio, Susan Dinisi of Springfield, Ohio, and Deborah Tooms of Vero Beach; brother, Vernon Johnson of Washington; sisters, Fern Ewers of Fort Pierce and Annale McClure of Aurora, N.C.; stepdaughters, Regina Boggus and Theresa Schmidt, both of Vero Beach; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Johnson, brother, Paul Johnson; daughter, Catherine Johnson; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Christian Church, Building Fund, 1425 Sixth St., Vero Beach, FL 32962.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. March 2 at First Church of the Nazarene, Vero Beach, with Kent Hawkins officiating.
