INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The School District of Indian River County will begin enrolling pre-kindergarteners in the summer Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program on March 2.The summer classes provide a 300-hour instructional program that will run from June 14 through July 28. Available student hours begin at 7:40 a.m. and continue through 5:20 p.m. and, pending enrollment, will be offered at Rosewood Magnet School and Pelican Island Elementary School. The program is free of charge for eligible students.To be eligible for the Summer VPK Program, a child must be 5-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2010 and entering kindergarten in the 2010-2011 school year and did not participate in the VPK school year program during the 2009 – 2010 school year.Parents must register their child with the School District of Indian River County Pre-K Office on one of the following dates: Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 8 a.m.-noonTuesday, March 9, 2010 from 1 p.m.-6 p.m.Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 1 p.m.-6 p.m.Or after these dates by calling 564-4169 for an appointmentDocumentation needed for enrollment:Proof of the child’s age (for example an original birth certificate)Proof of the family’s residency (example a bill for a service that you receive in your name at your current address)Child’s Social Security card (Optional, if available at the time of registration)VPK students also need to have a current (given within one year of the June 14, 2010 program start date) physical and immunization records.
