Ted Austin Zugelter, 54, Vero Beach of Vero Beach, died Feb. 15, 2010 in the intensive care unit of Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. His death was caused by complications resulting from a long illness.
Born in Cincinnati, July 30, 1955, Ted spent many happy days with his older brother, Tom, growing up in the Queen City, before the family moved to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Ted attended Proctor Academy, Andover, New Hampshire and St. George’s School, Newport, Rhode Island, before graduating from The Good Hope School in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
Following his graduation, he attended the University of Miami in Florida. Ted resided in Vero Beach since 1988.
As an adult, Ted found solace in his art and the paintings that he lovingly created will be given to family members, his friends and caregivers at New Horizons of the Treasure Coast in Fort Pierce.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, George and Janette Zugelter, and William Austin Moss and Carrie Moss all of Cincinnati, in addition to an uncle, Verdon Austin Moss.
Ted is survived by his loving family, all residents of Vero Beach, including parents, Dan and Ann Zugelter, his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Joyce Zugelter and his nephews, Kyle and Austen Zugelter.
A private family service, officiated by Father Robert Stull of Christ Church, will be held, Feb. 26, 2010 in the Chapel of Trinity Church and Trinity’s Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, Inc., 4500 W. Midway Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981, in recognition of the compassionate care provided to Ted, especially during the last years of his life.
