Edward G. Gantner, Jr., 88, Vero Beach

Edward G. Gantner, Jr., 88, died Feb. 13, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Gantner was born Dec. 21, 1921 in Chicago and moved to Vero Beach in 1978.

Mr. Gantner attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and Xavier University in Cincinnati and served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.

He served as Vice President and Treasurer of Gantner Industries in Morton Grove, Ill., for 25 years, after which he was associated with Greeff Fabrics located in Port Chester, N.Y. until his retirement in 1985.

Mr. Gantner was the former president and member of the North Shore Association for Retarded Children in Evanston and former board member of the Beverly-Farm Foundation Home for Retarded Children in Golfview, Ill.

Mr. Gantner served as past president and volunteer of the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Vero Beach, and was a member of St. Helen Church, Vero Beach where he served as Eucharistic Minster, Neighborhood Captain and other volunteer positions for the Church.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Tommy, Paul and Eddie.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary K. Gantner; brother, Robert Gantner of Chicago and 12 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Helen Catholic Church located at 2085 Tallahassee Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960 or a charity of one’s choice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 19 at noon pm at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Skokie, Ill.
